Criteria for Google
This year, Homevida with support from Google are looking for young, innovative and creative script writers that can create a balance between telling an entertaining story but still be able to convey the message without boring the audience. Under the category “Countering Hate Speech Through Film”, this year’s focus will be on story ideas on how the internet can be a vehicle to inspire greatness with a message to COUNTER HATE SPEECH
Criteria for Sace
USAID/SACE, as part of its project to increase transparency, accountability and good governance, aims to support young script-writers to focus on scripts and short movies that influence the wider citizens to engage and demand for good governance and encourages duty bearers to implement this. This is in recognition of the significant role of the Nigerian movie industry in influencing and shaping discourse in the country.
This year Homevida and the USAID/SACE Project are partnering to see how social change can be positively influenced by encouraging young script writers to create inspiring stories of change agents or actions that can contribute towards the awareness and promotion of transparency, accountability and good governance in Nigeria. Creative approaches to stir up an interest in the audience to enquire and participate in what goes on in their polity and society at all levels are an important entry point to change the narrative on how policies and governance affects the citizens daily life.

- Scripts should portray innovative solutions that improve transparency and accountability, prevent/reduce corruption and impunity, inspire and create a sense of responsibility, emphasize the importance of leadership, enhance citizen action and participation, highlight the need for social inclusion (women, youth and persons with disability), and engender a sense of patriotism.
Scripts will be evaluated against the following criteria
– Demonstration of a clear TAGG issue/challenge/problem associated to corruption in Nigeria
– Demonstration of a clear understanding of the causes, effects and impact of the issue
– Demonstration of an inspiring, but realistic and believable course of action that engages the issue positively
– Ability of the script to engage/inspire wider citizen action

Audition Tips from Multi-talented Filmmaker, Tope Oshin
Tope Oshin is a respected Director, Producer, Actor, Dialogue Coach and Casting Director, Tope owns Sunbow Productions Ltd and runs a Casting Agency (SunBow-Cast)
She produced the highly successful film “Fifty”, and created the rousing tribute to Amaka Igwe, “Amaka’s Kin”. She is also prominent for productions like “Journey to Self,” “Hotel Majestic,” “Tinsel,” “New Horizon” and “Ireti”. Tope was responsible for casting many of the actors you saw on “MTV: Shuga”.
So what tips does Tope share?
1. Be memorable. Be brilliant. Be amiable. You do want to be remembered out of a thousand that attended the audition.
2. Do NOT flirt with the Casting Director or tell them how nice they look. Scores no points with true professionals. Focus on your performance.
3. Always have a monologue ready to perform at an audition. Either it was advertised or not, script or not. You might be asked.
4. No. You don’t impress by asking for a minute to “get in character” in front of the panel.
5. You might not have more than a few seconds to a few minutes…If you impress…maybe a few more minutes and another try
6. Auditioning for a role has no formula…it’s an art…and for each session, different requirements
Tope also shared how she decides who gets the role when she has several talented and qualified actors.
Shes says, “When faced with casting an appropriate actor for a role, and I have two equally good actors – because they are several parameters for casting , I break down to the smaller parameters.
Usually, when an actor walks into a casting room, the first thing you are looking for is talent. If you cross the barrier of talent, then you are looking at ‘are they right for the role.”
Then you get two actors who seem to be right for the role, who both read the role properly, you then go into the nitty-gritty of “ok, do they look like the character?” So, these are some of the other things where you can then decide to start chipping away until you arrive at the perfect choice.”
There you have it! We hope you make good use of these tips from Nollywood’s best casting director.
Hundreds of Creative Jobs Available for Aspiring Entertainment People…as Job Listing Site, Auditions.ng, Records Over 10,000 Fans
Last Friday, June 9 2017, Auditions.ng, a job listing site for aspiring entertainment people, announced that it has reached over 10,000 fans across its platforms. This announcement was made amidst much excitement as the site inches towards its goal of providing thousands of jobs for the Nigerian youth population.
According to one of its talents who recently landed a job via the platform, the main challenge of up-and-coming talents is getting industry information of where auditions were held. “The main problem I had with my chosen part of profession was not knowing where auditions were held. I searched and searched but to no avail,” he said.
The Head of Strategy, Auditions.ng, Soyem Osakwe added that Auditions.ng was created to simplify the otherwise difficult process for new talents to get jobs, agents or representatives. “We are opening up the industry to accommodate more talents as we believe in the potential of the multi-billion naira entertainment industry to create jobs for youths. With the site, many talents can boast of booking roles without having to look for an agent. We are excited about providing this value to our clients and creating jobs for the teeming youth population in Nigeria”.
Auditions.ng proposes to make it easier for aspiring entertainment people to navigate the seemingly closed off entertainment and creative industries. The goal of the job listing and casting site is to place thousands of youths in jobs within these industries through listing current auditions in Nigeria and other job openings. Auditions.ng is owned by the innovation group, Lexiton. The group’s mission is to empower brands to understand and grow their market share using proven innovation strategies.
